Tree Management Plans in Brisbane

From Suburban Builds to CBD Upgrades, We Keep Your Project Tree-Compliant

Working on a build in Brisbane and dealing with protected vegetation? Chances are your local council will require a Tree Management Plan (TMP) before approving your development or site works.

At TMC Reports, we create fast, accurate TMPs that help you meet local regulations and avoid costly delays. Whether it’s a pool in Paddington or a multi-dwelling site in Logan, we’ve got the tree side of your compliance covered.

100% Council Compliance or Your Money Back

If your report isn’t accepted due to no-compliance, we refund you. No fuss. No forms. No stress.

Why Brisbane Councils Require a TMP

In Brisbane and surrounding LGAs, a Tree Management Plan shows the council exactly how trees will be protected before and during construction, especially if your works fall within a Tree Protection Zone  (TPZ) or near mapped vegetation overlays.

We tailor every TMP to suit your site layout, construction methods, and the specific documentation standards of your local council.

Our AQF Level 5 consulting arborists know the rules and how to meet them without overcomplicating your approvals process.

FAQs

  • When does Brisbane City Council ask for a TMP?

A TMP is usually required when your project affects protected vegetation or construction is proposed within a Tree Protection Zone (TPZ), even if the tree isn’t being removed. This includes verge trees, regulated species, and trees near excavation zones.

The earlier you include one in your submission, the fewer holdups you’ll face.

  • Are verge trees or street trees council-controlled in Brisbane?

Yes. Brisbane City Council considers verge trees (those planted on footpaths or nature strips) to be council assets.

If your works come close to these (for example, during fence installation or driveway widening), you’ll need to outline protective measures in a TMP.

  • Can I include tree removal in the same report?

Tree removals are usually assessed separately through a permit process, but your TMP can mention trees proposed for removal and outline how adjacent retained trees will be protected during those works.

If needed, we can also prepare a Tree Impact Assessment alongside your TMP.

  • Do I need a TMP for a new driveway or retaining wall?

Often, yes. Even smaller structures like retaining walls, carports, or footings can fall within TPZs or mapped vegetation overlays. Councils like Logan and Redlands can request TMPs for minor works if excavation could disturb roots.

  • How long does it take to get a TMP for Brisbane City Council?

We typically turn reports around in 3–5 business days, depending on the site and urgency.

If you’re responding to a Request for Further Information (RFI) or compliance condition, let us know - we’ll prioritise your report to meet council timelines.

  • What happens if I start building without a TMP?

If works begin without appropriate tree protection in place, councils can issue a stop-work notice or fine. A retrospective TMP can help you get back on track, but it's always better to include it from the outset.

If you're already part-way through a job, contact us. We can assess the site and prepare a catch-up report.

  • Can you provide TMPs for subdivisions or staged projects?

Yes. For larger developments with multiple stages, we can provide phased TMPs or update them as the project progresses. We also liaise with planners or environmental consultants to make sure the TMP aligns with vegetation management overlays.

  • Do you only work in Brisbane?

No, we regularly assist clients across South East Queensland, including Ipswich, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Gold Coast, and even regional councils.

If your project involves trees near the works, we’ll help you navigate the local rules.
